On 28 August 2021, upon the invitation of The Federation of Hong
Kong and Kowloon Labour Unions, Mr. Alex Wong, Policy Director of Savantas
Policy Institute cum Chief Executive Officer of Maritime Silk Road Society gave
a presentation to participants from the Federation’s “Civil Servants &
Subsidized Organizations Committee” at the “Belt and Road and Guangdong-Hong
Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area” National Studies Seminar.
To assist participants in understanding national policy, Mr. Wong
used the Hungary-Serbia Railway (Budapest to Belgrade) as a lead and introduced
the history and outlook of “Belt and Road”, including the five development directions,
actual areas for cooperation, risks and challenges etc. Thereafter, Mr. Wong
introduced the characteristics of the “Nine Cities and Two Regions” which
comprise the “Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area (GBA)”, and then
explored the collaborative relationship among different policy portfolios. Mr.
Wong summarized Hong Kong’s advantages in Belt and Road economies and the GBA
under the policy of “One Country, Two Systems” and the special meaning under
this policy. Finally, Mr. Wong interacted with the participants, answered their
questions, and expressed his wish that they will help promote national policies
to the public in future, and assist in the integration of Hong Kong into our
nation’s developmental scheme.
