The development plan for a city cluster in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area, which encompasses Hong Kong, Macau, and 9 cities in the Guangdong province, has become a project of regional and national significance. The bay area developmental plan is expected to make the Pearl River Delta region comparable to other major bay areas (such as the New York Metropolitan area, Greater Tokyo area, San Francisco bay area… etc.) around the globe once it is completed; the project has received repeated mentions in multiple major working reports published by the Chinese government. The bay area will be an invaluable economic opportunity for Hong Kong if realised. In light of these developments, the Savantas Policy Institute is collaborating with the research team from the Institute of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Development Studies, Sun Yat-sen University to formulate a shared vision of the Greater Bay Area, clarify each city’s positioning, facilitate the flow of factors of production, identify potential hindrances in the process and further engage the public in the process of development.Below is a photo of representatives of Savantas Policy Institute and Institute of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Development Studies, Sun Yat-sen University meeting to discuss plans for the Greater Bay Area.
